Book Club

Post by you're not my supervisor on Fri Jun 21, 2013 5:21 pm

So, as you know, I just re-read The Secret of Platform 13 and was wondering what kinds of books you guys are interested in. I'm into a lot of stuff, and I love suggestions! Right now, I'm reading Hero by Mike Lupica. How about you guys?

Cool. I may read it sometime, but older books scare me because of how they're written. I don't like it when I can't understand it.

Ooh, that one is pretty good! I don't think I have a favorite PJO book, because they're all good.

I don't have a favorite PJO book either. The movies suck either way (and they're making a Sea of Monsters one this year or... the next year or... I can't remember. :/)

Anyway, I tend to read fantasy more often than others. Eoin Colfer's are amazing. I love love love LOVE Airman. Of course I love Artemis Fowl too. Also, I thought The Supernaturalist was great.

I read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy... well, some books in that series. It's funny, it's ridiculous, but there is some language in it.

I really want to read A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and I agree that Artemis Fowl is excellent. I actually own the first book in that series, but I haven't read past the third one for some reason. The ending just killed me.

Bad Kitty by Michelle Jaffe had me laughing since I opened it and read the cover. I'm about halfway through, and it keeps getting better and better! It's part  mystery, part comedy, and all awesome! There was one part in particular that was brilliant. "Then there was one of those silences where everyone studies the carpeting like they've never seen such a remarkable substance before-- carpeting! Wonder of wonders! It's like hair! For the floor!"

Finished Bad Kitty. It was AWESOME. Possibly the best mystery I've ever read.

Right now, I'm almost finished with a book about Emily Dickinson called Nobody's Secret. It's a really cool murder mystery, and the main character is my favorite poet, so it's gotta be good, right?

You know what, I'll just bring this back to life.

Hi guys Dracula is an incredibly good book!

It's public domain, and therefore available to read anywhere on the internet.

Right there. That's Dracula. It's a book with a big medical side to it and it's highly interesting. It's worth reading! I'm 21 chapters in and love it.

You mean the original one? I'll probably end up reading that in Gothic Literature next semester.

Right now I'm reading the third Iron Fey book.

Re: Book Club

tODAY I READ A BOOK BY JONATHAN STROUD BECAUSE SOMETIMES MY SISTER FORCES ME TO THE LIBRARY TO GET BOOKS AND WE SAW IT AND WE WERE LIKE 'OH A NEW SERIES' EXCEPT IT ISNT REALLY VERY NEW WE JUST DONT KEEP UP WITH THE TIMES WHY AM I YELLING

anyway i was too lazy to get out of bed this morning so i just grabbed the book and read the whole thing before i did anything else

dis be the book

there are three (technically four? i mean there's a 1.5 book so i??????) berks in the series rn and i believe i saw somewhere that he said it'd be four or five books or something IDK MAN

anyway if you are too lazy to look up the summary yourself: psychic teenagers. not like, psychic, but like, they sense ghosts, basically. also london is hella haunted for w/e reason no seriously nobody knows there are just ghosts everywhere and it sucks dick. anyway there are agencies filled with psychic teenagers to fight ghosts and we follow one that is composed of three psychic teenagers. literally that's it. no adults. anyway shit goes down, people die, people are already dead, yada yada yada.

(there are like two parts that made me go hhNGGNGH FUN TIMES but unless you are me (which you are not) it's fine so it's ok)

that summary is as far as i am willing to go for you google it yourself

in any case! i, do not believe i liked it as much as the bartimaeus trilogy. not to say it's not good, but like idk something about it just kinda went eehh with me? im not sure. i think it's the characters i don't like as much, that's probably it. also, the narrator isn't as sassy as bartimaeus so that might have something to do with it.

anyway it was stILL GOOD and i stILL LIKED IT b/c lbr here the bartimaeus trilogy is like, hella, so comparatively i mean not everything can be the bartimaeus trilogy can it? it's unfair to be like 'wow this sucks b/c this isn't as good as his other books.' it is still a good book. next time i go to the library imma see if they got the other books in the series.

i would probably recommend b/c it's good and also not that scary really??? like imma be honest. granted i read it in the morning in my bed in broad daylight so

but still

yeah

yes this topic has been dead for almost a year fight me

Ooh, I should read that. I think I may have actually heard of it before.

Meanwhile, I'm growing more and more frustrated with The Mortal Instruments because Clary and Jace are annoying af
