The Airship

The Airship

The capital of Xyla is a large, sprawling city, its population and area larger than any other city on the island. It demands attention, loud and full of life; the bustling streets full of shining black stagecoaches pulled by handsome horses, the chattering people who live well in the prosperity of the city, the street peddlers yelling at their top of their lungs to be heard above the clamour. The streets are impossibly difficult to cross, yet people weave their way across it with such calm confidence. The city may be disorderly and chaotic, but it is happy.

Today, though, you are not concerned with the city. No, today you are heading to the palace itself. The royal palace; described as a marvel of breathtaking architecture, constructed by possibly the most skilled architect in the world, its walls smooth and flawless, its beauty unmatched. They say that you can hear Orderstone running underneath its floors if you just listen hard enough; that the palace sings if you put your ears to its walls. You see the garden out of the corner of your eye; see glimpses of bright, vibrant flowers, climbing vines of ivy, and hear the nickering of horses, the low, soft chatter of the gardeners.

Still, none of these marvels are your concern. A tall butler spots you and walks over, his voice soft and low, his manners polite. He escorts you through a small passage to an area behind the palace. You can still smell the flowers from the garden; some scents rich and intoxicating, others crisp and bright.  This is something else altogether, though. This is the airship.

You cannot help but stand in awe as you see it. Rumors have, obviously, spread about the king's new acquisition, but this... this is amazing. They call it a marvel of modern engineering, its outside a shining silver, able to contain a thousand passengers. Servants bustle around, carrying packages of other guests' luggage, talking amongst themselves, wishing others a good journey. A different smell catches your attention, acrid and a shock to the senses. You wrinkle your nose and look around, spotting a young woman walking out of the airship and staring at its underside curiously. Walking over, you notice the many rows of small crystals, easily identifiable as being used for air magic.

"Still have to be broken in," the woman notes, and you look to her again. Her hair is a very light brown, just a tad too brown to be called blonde. It must have been in an orderly, pretty style a while ago, but it is now messed up, strands flying everywhere and some spots seeming slick with oil. She would be pretty, but she wears men's clothing, you note with distaste, and not even fashionable clothing at that; a white shirt, simple pants, both smeared with oil, as are her hands and face.

The woman looks up at you, surprised, allowing you to see her lively bright blue eyes. "Ah! You must be a guest. I'm, um, the engineer of this ship, Meila Kraston." She smiles, but does not proffer her hand after taking a quick glance at it. "I'm sorry about my appearance, the crystals are still getting broken in and there's an awful lot of things with the machinery I have to adjust. Everything's new; and that's the problem! You see..." she pauses and smiles, this time sheepishly. "I'm sorry. Anila should show you to your quarters..." she searches around, looking over the mass of servants. "Anila?" she yells over the clamour.

Servants part for another one, taller and more dignified than the others. She must be Anila, with dark brown hair and dark brown eyes, even her skin darker than most of the others. Her voice seems a little odd, an unidentifiable accent hiding just under the surface. "My utmost apologies," she tells you, bowing at your presence. "I will show you to your quarters now. We have receive your luggage already and it should be in your room. If you have any complaints, please, just tell me and it shall be taken care of."

She leads you up into the ship, allowing you to take a look at its inside. It has multiple floors, clearly, each sturdy and the wood of the floor smelling fresh and newly cut. You can see a tree growing out of the corner of your eye; odd, but you shrug it off anyway. Anila talks to you about the places as you pass by them; this is the dining area, this is a lounge, these are the servant's quarters, down those stairs is the engine room... It is hard to pay attention to all of these details, but you try your best, and she reassures you, saying the servants on board will be glad to help you find your way until you get used to it.

Yes, the king and queen may be... odd, to say the least, but they are well known as heroes, and they don't do a bad job of ruling (though most say that ought to be credited to the queen). The maiden voyage of the new airship... what an event to be invited to!

And you smile to yourself as you settle in, expecting nothing but clear skies ahead.

*~*~*~*
Dammit.

Meila Kraston took one last look at the crystals, shook her head, and stood up. She turned from right to left, cracking her back and sighing. Anila walked over to her.

"Something wrong?" the maid asked, ever polite and kind. Meila didn't feel like getting angry at such a nice person.

"These crystals are high quality, but they're fresh and new. They can't quite handle the strain right now; they're not broken down. We might have to postpone leaving for a few days, maybe a week. It's nothing I can't handle, but it's frustrating."

"I see." Anila nodded. "Should I inform--"

"No, no, I'll tell S... uh, the queen myself. You have enough to worry about, handling the guests and all." She smiled at the head maid, who nodded and hurried off, presumably to talk to another guest. Meila let out a breath and walked into the airship, looking around. Spotting another maid, she managed to catch her attention. "D'you know where the queen is right now?" she whispered. "Thanks, good luck." And she was off.

Saivel was located under the tree in the airship, which was apparently just there because it added atmosphere, or some other stupid reason like that. It looked pretty, and it had nice-smelling flowers, so Meila guessed it had a point, but still--it made the structure kinda weird to work with, and she'd rather just not have it on board.

A young girl sat in the branches of the tree; Anila's daughter, Amy. She was eight years old, and looked much like her mother, though she acted quite different. Amy caused trouble and teased just about anyone she felt like, even the queen. The queen didn't mind her antics; instead, she seemed to enjoy looking after the little girl, since her mother was busy so often.

"Huh, s'engineer," Amy stated, slurring her words together as she stuck a spoon in her mouth, licking the remnants of sweet honey off of it. Saivel turned to look at Meila, a curious look on her face.

"The crystals," Meila said, gesturing towards the engine room. "They're new, and though they're good quality, I don't think they can sustain flight right now. With some luck we'll be able to launch when we're supposed to, but we might be stuck here for a few days, a week at most. We need to get them worn in, but we need to get the engines worn in..." she trailed off, hoping the queen would understand her problems. "I mean, the team? Great. But we can't do that."

Saivel nodded. "Alright. Do the best you can, Meila. Please inform me if you do need to postpone launching."

"Plbbt." Amy stuck out her tongue, hitting the wooden spoon against the tree. "Can't you just get a mage to run electricity through the machine?"

"Not that simple, Amy," Meila replied with a smile. "Wish it was. Want to see how it works?"

"Nah, that's bo-ring," the girl told her, now inspecting the spoon. "Cook mighta needed this," she muttered. "Think I should bring it back?"

"Get down and I'll bring you over there," the queen replied good-humoredly. Amy nodded and made her way down, dropping from the lowest branch of the tree and walking with the queen, presumably to the kitchen.

Meila laughed and headed back to the engine rooms. Her whole experience here had been odd. From meeting the queen, who had confided she'd prefer to wear men's clothing, and who seemed to do much of the more serious work that ruling a kingdom involved; and seeing very little of the king, who she seemed to just barely miss. She'd met him, yes; but only for a short time, just allowing her to actually see him face to face and exchange names.

Ah well. Meeting the king could wait for later. She had an engine to mess with, crystals to work in, plenty of stuff to preoccupy her. The engineer smiled as she headed downstairs to the engine room, chatting with her team as they messed with the engine and thinking nothing of that strange, haunting noise the engine made as they tried to start it up another time, or of that darkness that lingered in the corner, despite the electric lights that lit up the engine room as if in broad day.

She thought that there were no enemies left anymore, that their kingdom was happy and peaceful and free of all of the darkness.

If only she was right.

Re: The Airship

Post by no mom its ironic on Thu Sep 12, 2013 11:58 pm

The Time
The current time is somewhere around the equivalent of the late Victorian era to the start of World War I, and technology and culture are at the same states. (I would like to have some sort of accuracy with this, so do your research or ask for help. At the very least, Wikipedia.) (This was kind of originally supposed to be steampunk. I don't think it really is anymore.)

The Setting
The island of Xyla; the kingdom over which Fuse and Saivel now rule. It's a happy kingdom. There's crime, of course, and some people are hungry, but it's still better than you'd probably see in your average country/kingdom/nation at the time.
Both magic and technology exist; the world isn't trapped from advancing further, and so it has. It's not like Modern Magic, it's the late Victorian era to the start of World War I.

Rules

  • First off, do not godmod. Do not bunny. Do not do things that are automatically taboo in roleplaying.
  • Make sure to stay as historically accurate as you can. They have guns, they have electric lights, but don't get ridiculous here.
  • When events happen, events happen.
  • Be respectful to your fellow roleplayers.

Re: The Airship

Post by no mom its ironic on Fri Sep 13, 2013 1:58 am

Example Characters

Name: Saivel Mei Kaese (Ignore me as her last name changes around, please)
Gender: Female
Age: 22 or so
Race: Half-angel; her wings are summonable (solely for my convenience in this because I pity the tailor who makes wing slits) and she has Chaos in her blood from her father
(Family) History: On her father Valion's side her family was quite reputable; the brood of Chaos is not one to be ignored, after all. Her mother Seraphime was an angel, simply enough, pure, bright, and flawless. It wasn't the best family, even after her younger sister, Sarine, was born. In fact, it probably worked to drive the family apart. Eventually, she up and left, running to the island of Xyla only to end up involved in its eventual petrification. Afterwards, stuff happened. She did her stuff, had adventures, and now Fuse is king and she's queen and everything looks good. And now Fuse has an airship and they're going on its maiden voyage... ah well. It's better than the paperwork, in any case.
Appearance: Saivel is a tall woman (5' 9" or so), with fair skin and jet-black hair, commonly braided or curled and generally appearing much shorter than its actual length, which is about halfway down her back. Her eyes are a purple color, and her figure generally considered to be fashionable. She wears a corset generally because she is a queen, and she ought to be proper, after all, but still dislikes it, though the crinoline she finds amusing. In any case, she tends to wear a bustle, and enjoys lighter colors, like pastel greens and blues, with occasional purple. She usually wears hats, though they are simple, with often only a single flower or a small group of feathers as decoration. Gloves she enjoys wearing, especially white ones, since 'then I can tell people to pick up stuff because they won't want me to get my gloves dirty.'
Personality: Taking on her responsibilities as queen as a kingdom, Saivel tries her best to be kind, caring, and overall proper, being soft-spoken but still authoritative. Most people respect the queen based on her public interactions, but in private she can be rather inappropriate and commonly makes snide remarks about the fussy nobles she must converse with. She has dry wit and sarcastic humor, but still does her best to be friendly and a good person when she is in public.
Skills/Spells/Abilities: Saivel is practically a master pyromancer and practiced air mage, with some knowledge in light magic due to her mother. She has also taken multiple lessons in fencing and swimming and is quite skilled at the two. She has some knowledge of firearms and is competent at firing a gun.
Belongings: When it comes to what Saivel always has on her, she has a small, sheathed dagger usually hidden in her left glove. Though she once had poison on its tip, she has decided she's above such lethal protection now. Otherwise she has a foil for fencing and a rapier, though she has scarcely ever used it. She has a gun for safety, but has never, ever used it.
Notes: 'I like wearing white gloves. Why? My reason for this is that then I can tell people to pick up stuff because they won't want me to get my gloves dirty.'

Name: Meila Kraston
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Race: Human
(Family) History: Meila was born and raised in an icy northern land, the fourth of sixth children in her large family. Still, she lived an average life, though her older siblings began working as early as they could to help support the family. Her talent for engineering was first noticed in the fact that she understood how the lights work and, when one shorted out, was able to repair it. After saving up for a while, she was sent off to learn more and worked odd jobs, building up her reputation, until she was eventually asked to be the engineer of the royal airship. Of course, she accepted, and here she is.
Appearance: Meila is quite clearly young, and she seems to deviate from social norms, frequently wearing men's clothing since it works better for her in her line of work. Still, she will dress up without complaints and tries her best to look proper. Her hair is a light brown, close to blond but not quite, and her eyes a bright, lively blue. She prefers not to wear a crinoline or bustle at all, but still is fully equipped with usually dark red or blue dresses for formal occasions.
Personality: Meila is cheerful and humorous, trying her best to make people laugh. Brought up properly, she acts as courteously as she can, but has a rather short fuse. All the same, she will usually excuse herself before she explodes at the person aggravating her. She gets along well with the queen, since they have similar senses of humor.
Skills/Spells/Abilities: Meila has some knowledge of fire magic, living in a cold land, and knows a great deal about electricity and engineering. She knows a little about guns; how to fire them, and little else.
Belongings: Meila has few belongings; goggles to protect her eyes and other engineering tools. She carries rather little with her, in all honesty.
Notes:

Non-Player Characters

Name: Anila Polyne
Gender: Female
Age: 34
Race: Human, though she seems to have elf in her.
(Family) History: Anila Polyne was born to a rather poor family, and much of her life was in the same poverty. She was lucky enough to catch the eye of a richer man, and for a while she was happy with him. But he fell ill and died soon after she became pregnant. Anila was lucky enough to be employed by the queen as a royal maid and is generally the head of the servants.
Appearance: Anila is a pretty woman, though she has a thicker build of sorts. Her skin is noticeably darker than normal, her eyes and hair a dark brown that is still distinguishable from black. Anila is tall, with a very straight posture that seems to emphasize her height. She wears the standard maid outfit, though a silver bracelet with three pink gems can be noted on her left wrist.
Personality: Anila is kind, polite, and courteous. She is very well-fitted for the job of a maid, being very tolerant and patient--and very well-fitted for the job of a single mother, as well. She tries her best to tone down the queen's deprecating humor and keep her in control, and is in fact good friends with her.
Skills/Spells/Abilities: Anila knows nothing more than a few tricks with fire magic, pretty and flashy but not very powerful. All the same, she is surprisingly strong, and is very protective of her daughter.
Belongings: Anila does not possess much but her silver bracelet, containing three small pink gems in it. It is a gift from her deceased husband, though her wedding ring she keeps in a small box to ensure she does not lose it.
Notes:

Name: Amy Polyne
Gender: Female
Age: 8
Race: Like her mother, except with less elf.
(Family) History: Amy's mother, Anila, was not poor after her husband died. Still, she was not rich, and struggled to take care of her daughter. She was three when her mother gained a fairly reliable job as a royal maid and soon became the favorite of most of them and the dear of all. Spoiled rotten by the servants and the queen, she's a funny little girl.
Appearance: Amy looks much like a younger version of her mother, the only noticeable difference being that her eyes are a lighter brown. She is tall for her age and wears simple dresses, usually black and white, appearing much like her mother's maid outfit.
Personality: Amy has been slightly spoiled from her years in the palace, but they're trying their best to keep her from getting too spoiled. She doesn't seem very grabby, and will accept it if she can't get something. Still, she's a bit of a prankster and enjoys teasing and making trouble, though she won't do anything too harsh.
Skills/Spells/Abilities: Nothing much; she's very agile, can climb trees, and that's it.
Belongings: A little golden necklace with a small diamond pendant. Her mother gave it to her, and it seems to be worth a lot to her.

Re: The Airship

Post by Death is... kinda hot on Mon Sep 16, 2013 1:43 pm

Name: Venia Their

Gender: Female

Age: 18 (I don't remember how many years after Xia Xyla is)

Race: Human

(Family) History: (Since this isn't Steampunk Xia, I have to change her backstory again. Not complaining, though. This is fun!) Venia works as a governess (fancy way of saying she's a nanny) for two children, named Klaus and Annabelle. Their father is a wealthy lord who is used to getting his own way, and did not hesitate to hire Venia as a governess for his children at the first sign of them getting out of hand. The children's mother is a rather frail woman, and part of Venia's job is to keep the children out of her way. The children like Venia well enough, but when she tells them stories of her past exploits with Fuse and Saivel, they think she's just making up stories to entertain them. She would do just about anything for Klaus and Annabelle, and she's secretly glad she's able to show them a fun childhood before their heritage inevitably turns them into jaded, cynical adults. For the purpose of this RP, we'll assume that her employer granted her some time off.

Appearance: She wears a long-sleeved traveling dress with black and white stripes, her black and green hair is pinned into a bun under a hat decorated with black silk flowers, and her boots are slightly muddy, but still quite shiny.

Personality: Venia is a very sweet, bubbly character. She's naturally childish and fun, and she's also very adventurous.

Skills/Spells/Abilities: Venia has the ability to control and create fire as well as ice, she can levitate objects and people (including herself), and she can speak to animals, including her companion Trouble, a Tonkin snub-nosed monkey.

Belongings: Venia has a steamer trunk packed with belongings to bring with her on her trip. Among these are her bow and arrows, extra clothing, and her revolver. She also carries a parasol and her handbag, but those aren't packed in her trunk.
***

Name: Tobias (Toby) Bowie

Gender: Male

Age: 11

Race: Human

(Family) History: Toby was orphaned at a young age. He lived on the streets, using his powers to pickpocket and do the other things it took to stay alive. He came to the capitol city, hoping that maybe the king and queen could help him.

Appearance: Toby is small and scrawny for his age, a side effect of living on the streets. His ash-smeared grey pants are a bit too short, his shoes are scuffed badly and nearly worn out, and one of his socks is missing. There are several holes in his brown jacket, which he found in a rubbish bin, and his dirty white shirt borders on threadbare. His face is streaked with ash and dirt, and his brown hair is greasy and caked with mud under his grey newsboy cap.

Personality: He's rather shy and quiet, not liking to interact with people much.

Skills/Spells/Abilities: Toby has several mental powers: he can use telekinesis, read minds, and, to a very small extent, use mind control.

Belongings: He, of course, doesn't have much with him, but he does have his father's pocket watch, which he carries with him like a good luck charm, refusing to sell it even when he needs the food.
***

Venia strolled across the lawn, her trunk following close behind her, appearing to float on its own but actually being controlled by Venia's powers of levitation. Trouble sat on the trunk, nervously watching the ground fly by him. However, the monkey was soon distracted by the rich scent of flowers coming from the gardens, and Venia kept having to look back at him to make sure he didn't jump off of the trunk in pursuit of a butterfly.

She arrived at the base of the airship, its grandeur making her gape in spite of herself. Her mouth spreading into a smile that crinkled the corners of her eyes, she hastened toward the behemoth machine.
***
Toby watched the bright traffic of people from where he hid in the bushes. A woman passed close to the bushes, stopping to stare at the large, well, whatever it was on the lawn, her purse dangling near Toby's face. Toby's stomach growled, and he grit his teeth, deciding on the best course of action he could think of.

Carefully lifting a hand, he coaxed the woman's bag open. Ever so slowly, a coin began to float out, towards his waiting hand. Toby's eyes sparkled; this piece of silver could feed him for days if he was careful.

Suddenly, the coin froze in midair. Toby pulled harder with his mind, but it didn't move. The woman he'd nearly stolen the coin from sighed, reached back, and retrieved her coin, Toby's hold on it broken by his confusion. There was a whirl of skirts, and suddenly he was looking into the woman's green eyes, which were sparkling with mischief.

"Bravo!" She sounded genuinely impressed. "You're bloody brilliant, you are."

"What?" Toby was even more confused. "You aren't goin' to scold me?"

"Naw," the woman straightened out, "by the looks of you, you need this more than I do. Here," she held the coin out to Toby, "take it."

Toby's voice was laced with apprehension as he responded. "Are you sure? After I tried to steal it an' all?"

"'Course I am! But I suppose you may have a point, stealing is, after all, against the law. Tell me, what's your name?"

"My name? I'm Toby, ma'am. Tobias Bowie."

"Well, Toby, I'm Venia Their. I think maybe I can help you. C'mon!"

Venia made as if to leave.

"Wait!" Toby caught Venia's skirt as she turned away. "Where're we goin'?"

She pointed to the large structure on the lawn. "You see that airship?"

"Is 'at what it is? Ain't never seen one of them before."

"Well, that's what it is. It sails through the skies, and you can see the entire island from up there! I was going to go by myself, but I could use a traveling companion."

Toby couldn't believe it. The monkey on the lady's trunk couldn't seem to believe it either. It chattered indignantly until Venia picked it up and cradled it like a baby.

"Now Trouble, you know I love you, but you aren't the best conversationalist. Give Toby here a chance."

"Ma'am, are you sure?"

"Is something wrong?"

"It's just, nobody ain't ever been this nice to me. Is this some kind of a trick or somethin'?"

"Of course not!" Venia scoffed. "I am NOT that kind of a person. My job is to take care of children, so I'm just doing my job. Besides, I can't stand to see someone in need. If you were desperate enough to try and steal from me, then you obviously need help."

"Wow, you must be some kind of a angel, Venia Their."

Venia laughed softly. "I'm no angel, just a chaos fairy that's learning to control herself. Now, you coming?"

She turned to leave again. Once again, Toby grabbed her skirts. "Wait."

"Yes?" Venia asked, turning to look at him as he climbed out of the bushes.

"Thank-you." The boy dusted himself off and held out one hand.

"You are most welcome." Venia took his hand and shook it warmly. When she pulled away, the silver coin sat in Toby's palm. He looked up at his new friend, and she winked at him, still smiling.

It took Anila no time to notice the new arrival, and she appeared by Venia's side at once. "You must be Lady Venia," she said, curtsying politely. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Toby, but decided not to mention it. "I would be happy to show you to your quarters on the ship now. But, ah, I must inquire about the... monkey, and that young friend of yours..."

"Yes, that would be me! The boy and the monkey are with me. They're my traveling companions," Venia answered her jovially.

Toby peered at Anila nervously, trying not to look too overwhelmed by his surroundings.

Re: The Airship

Post by no mom its ironic on Tue Sep 17, 2013 1:06 am

"Ah. Well, that will be fine then." Anila smiled and stood up. "I will go inform the queen of your presence--"

"What's this?" Meila's head popped out from the airship, an impossibly wide grin on her face. "Must be a new arrival! And there's a monkey!" she added, as Anila gave her a disbelieving stare.

Trying to hint towards the fact that Meila should leave right now, Anila spoke as kindly as she could. "Miss Kraston, weren't you busy dealing with the crystal problem?"

"Oh, that." Meila paused. "Yeah, that." She sniffed and rubbed her nose on an oil-stained sleeve. "Can't overdo it, y'know. We are trying to wear down the crystals, but too much energy and we risk breaking them. Giving 'em a rest for now."

"Well..." Anila sighed, deciding she couldn't do anything about it. "...Alright then."

"I'll go, uh, tell the queen that... Vee... Veeya, was that it?" She almost paused to contemplate, only to decide it was a waste of time. "Nevermind, she'll know. I'll tell her that, uh, Veeya has arrived. You can..." Meila waved her hand in no specific direction. "Do your stuff."

"Well, alright," Anila replied, sounding reluctant and slightly confused.

"Good!" Meila grinned again and disappeared from the airship's entrance without a further word. Anila coughed (look just forget about Meila she's really weird) and began to walk up the stairs, only to suddenly stop and turn around.

"Oh! I'm dreadfully sorry, I will take your bags for you at once."  Before Venia could reply, she easily picked up her trunk and carried it under one arm. "Come along now, wouldn't want you getting lost." Smiling warmly, Anila turned and walked up the stairs into the airship.

Anila laughed. "Don't worry about Meila, she'll figure it out and try to make it up to you as best as she possibly can. In any case, this is the main room." She swung one arm out wide to gesture at the whole room. "The servant's quarters are over there," she added as she pointed to a spiral staircase encircling the tree, "and the engine room is down there." She once again gestured towards a staircase, though this one was rather definitely not spiral. "Your room, however, is located over here." Anila began walking towards a hallway to her right.

"Nice!"

Toby's eyes became huge. "This place is so big! There's a blimmin' tree growin' in the place!"

Almost immediately after Toby spoke and before Anila could reply, a young girl's voice practically screamed one word: "Mommyyyyy!"

Anila frowned and turned just in time for an eight-year-old girl to slam into her at mach speed. She held firm and merely smiled at Amy, who was also smiling up at her and holding the remnants of a cookie in one hand.

"What's that?" she asked her daughter, smiling with love.

"Gave the spoon back to th' cook," Amy explained, licking chocolate off of her fingers. "Didn't need it so she gave me a cookie for being good!" She paused and looked around her, realizing that Venia and Toby were there. After a short squeak of surprise, she jumped and sorted herself. Amy removed herself from her mother, ate the last of her cookie, and smoothed out her dress. "Hi guests-people! I'm Amy Polyne, at your service!" she exclaimed, beaming happily.

"I was just showing our guests to their rooms. Would you like to come along?"

"Sure." Amy kept up her smile and grabbed onto her mother's hand before quickly tugging the woman along.

"Hello there!" Venia said, waving at the girl. Trouble climbed onto Venia's shoulder and scrutinized her closely.

Re: The Airship

Amy made a face at Trouble behind her mother's back. Anila didn't notice and merely led the guests along another hallway. "These are a few lounges and other rooms, but along here there should be--excuse me, I'm showing guests through--your living quarters." Servants stepped aside, allowing them space to move through the hallway and into what appeared to be another lounge, though it had doors just about everywhere and a spiral staircase in one corner, leading up to several walkways, along which more doors were located. "If you would like, we can arrange another room for your young companion, but for now, I shall just show you to your room."

Anila looked around for a moments and quickly located Venia's room, which was conveniently located just a few feet away. The door had a golden plate on its right reading 'VENIA THEIR' in jet black letters, and the door had ornate winding carvings along its top, cut out with painstaking detail. Anila searched in her pockets for a few moments, Amy plucking out a keychain and handing it to her mother. "Here, Mommy."

Anila smiled. "Thank you, Amy..." After flipping through the keychain quickly, she located the correct key and easily slid it off of her own keychain, handing it to Venia. "I must leave now; more guests to guide, errands to run. If you need me, just tell one of the servants." Someone tapped her on the shoulder and whispered something in her ear. "Ah! They say the queen will be here to see you. Make yourself comfortable until her arrival."

After she finished speaking, Anila curtsied again respectfully and led Amy back out into the hallway, leaving Venia, Toby, and Trouble to do as they liked.
-----
Meanwhile...

Meila was polite enough to at least try to clean herself up a bit before meeting the queen. She rubbed the oil off her hands and face and changed her shirt quickly, but the rest she couldn't be bothered to do.

The engineer walked out into the hallway and asked a servant where the queen was. "In the Green Lounge, Miss Kraston. I can lead you there if--"

"No, no, it's quite alright. Thank you," Meila added hastily, before rushing off to the Green Lounge. Unfortunately she had to wait in a bit of a people traffic jam, but she pushed her way through (gently) and made her way to the door.

Saivel was sitting on one of the couches, speaking with what must be a nobleman, his clothing far too bright and, as far as Meila was concerned, rather garish. As Meila squeezed herself through the door, their eyes automatically turned to her. She coughed awkwardly and took another look at herself.

"Err, Anila told me to inform you that Venia Their has arrived on the airship."

"Thank you, Meila. You may go now."

Meila nodded and walked straight back out of the door. Saivel stood up and turned to the nobleman. "I'm quite sorry, Lord Durnshire, but I must leave now. Please, make yourself comfortable." Lord Durnshire nodded and mumbled something respectfully as Saivel turned around and exited the room.

The servants cleared as much as they could to make way for the queen, who managed her way through out into the hallway.

"Now to see Venia again." She smiled to herself and walked down to the guests' rooms.

Venia leaned out the door, spotting Saivel.

"Hello again!" She exclaimed, waving.

Saivel grinned broadly and ran to her friend, hugging her as tightly as she could.

"Venia!" she cried, giving the woman breathing space. "It's been so long since I last saw you! How have you been?"

"Oh, you know, boring ruling a kingdom stuff, doing all the paperwork because Fuse would probably muck it all up... I haven't got a clue where he is right now, actually." Saivel frowned, then noticed Toby behind Venia. "Who's this?"

"Ah." Saivel appraised Toby carefully. "What are you doing, wearing those torn-up clothes? Venia, why have you treated this child so badly?" She clucked her tongue and shook her head, turning to Venia for an answer.

"I found him like this ten minutes ago. It's not my fault."

Toby blushed. "I been livin' on the streets."

"Living on the streets?" Saivel sighed. She was fully aware that poverty existed, and that it was impossible to get rid of it. Still, the half-angel would be damned if she didn't try. "I hope you will certainly find your living conditions much better here."

Re: The Airship

Post by no mom its ironic on Fri Sep 27, 2013 12:10 am

(I can also activate plan PLOT THAT MEANS THAT FUSE NOT JOINING IS OKAY)

Meila swore at the machinery and gave it a good glare. Then for good measure she swore at it one more time, just to make sure it understood how angry she was at it.

What was wrong with it? The generator had nothing wrong with it. It was taking energy from a few crystals, turning it into pure mana, and running that mana through the air crystals to generate lift. But it wasn't working. The crystals just didn't seem to be accepting enough energy to get them in the air. First she'd thought they weren't broken in, but they surely were by now. And there wasn't a single thing wrong with the generator!

Shaking her head, Meila sighed and looked to her team in defeat. "We're not making any progress on this," she told them reluctantly. "Sorry to say, but we should probably take the day off for now. You've done good jobs."

Discontented murmurs were all she got in reply, but the other engineers soon filtered out of the room and somewhere else on the ship. Meila continued to puzzle over the generator.

She moved to touch it and suddenly drew back. Static electricity? Weird. Frowning, Meila restarted the machine.

With a pleasant hum, the energy began to run into the wires leading into the crystals. Meila quickly checked to see whether the crystals were glowing. They... were. How odd. How suspiciously odd.

Greatly confused, Meila decided she ought to accept it for now and turned off the machine. They should be all prepared for launch tomorrow. She had best inform the queen.

The engineer turned around to head up the stairs, only to stop suddenly. Energy sparked from the generator, winding its way over to the nearby wall, where suspicious darkness hung. Narrowing her eyes, Meila walked closer, rather unnecessarily, as she noticed the energy writing out a barely legible message. She stopped and waited for it to complete.

A chill ran up her back and Meila decided that yes, she had better inform the queen as she dashed up the stairs. The message remained, glowing with magical energy.

LONG LIVE THE UNSEEN KING

"So," Venia finally asked, "Where's Fuse? I haven't seen him yet."
