That and you will make them join the Illuminati by accident.

at least he left the wine

Her father is dead.

She yelled at her father and stormed off, and now he is dead.

Not officially dead. There is no evidence to prove he is dead, but they know beyond a doubt that he is dead. She feels it in her heart, a certain emptiness, a void. They argued, they yelled, they shouted, and now her father is dead.

Her sister is dead.

She thought she would be safe. The forest was on the mainland, after all, and inland enough that she would've thought he wouldn't have bothered to go that far. She was wrong. She messed up.

What a surprise. She laughs but the sound is drowned in cheap wine. It spills from her mouth onto her chin and--the bottle is empty.

She swears, but somewhere that sound gets lost too.

Her back aches. It remembers when feathers burst from them in a scream of pure white. She pretends she does not feel as if her skin is going to burst at the seams and looks around, not truly interested in her surroundings but needing something to distract herself.

She is fairly certain the man is asking her if she would like more and it takes a while for her hand to move through the air as if it is water, to reach into her pocket and pull out a gold coin, for her fingers to rub against its cold surface. The cold brings her back to reality for a split second.

Damn.

She puts it on the counter and continues her surveying of the tavern. There is a man in the corner and for some reason she feels like picking a fight with him. Or really anyone in particular, but the bartender wouldn't give her her wine then and the man in the corner is the only one in the room.

His white robe annoys her. It's too bright, and in comparison everything else is dark. He does not belong.

His white wings annoy her.

"Sunuva bish." The words come slurring out of her mouth as she realizes exactly who--or rather, what--she is staring at.

He looks up, expectant. She sees danger in his eyes and she does not care.

"Yer a fuckin... son of heaven."

"Yes?" There is poison hidden in his voice and she welcomes it. There is nothing he can do to her. A smile finds its way onto her lips; his hand finds its way to his hip.

"Yes?" he repeats, and her smile widens.

"Fuck you," she says incoherently. The bartender turns away. The man sighs and turns away. He doesn't think she's worth making trouble with. She will change that.

"No really, fuck you." Her voice clears and this makes his eyes turn back to hers. It is too dark to see the purple, she thinks.

She thinks. She doesn't really care, either way.

"Yer jus' a bunch of petty criminals. Tha's why they don't hunt ya down. You aren't worth the trouble." Even drunk, she is able to call a flame to her hand. The bartender walks away, leaving the bottle of wine on the table. For a moment she wonders whether she should take the wine or throw the flame.

It does not take her long to decide that she should do both.

She has to give him credit--he does not flinch when she throws the wine at him. It takes him a second for him to realize what exactly she is intending to do with the flame in her hand though. By then it is just a little too late.

Luckily for him, most of the wine landed on his robe, as did the flame. He easily sheds it and puts out the the flame on his arm with a gust of wind, marching up to her authoritatively.

She grins, a wide, ear-splitting grin that looks painful. He punches it off of her.

*~*~*~*

She wakes up in a cell with a golden seal tight around her neck. It is cold and clammy and it makes her feel like she is choking and it takes her a little while to realize that it has taken something away from her. There is an emptiness inside, one past the ones she already has. It makes her uncomfortable and she squirms a little. The seals around her wrists are considerably heavier and she does not want to bother with moving them.

She looks around the cell she is in. The bars appear to be made of gold, but she knows full well that is not gold. Her mother was a light priestess after all. Her mother did not teach her nothing.

One the floor there is a chunk of stale bread and a glass of water she does not trust, even though it looks completely clear. Next to the glass is a half-empty bottle.

She laughs, though her voice is hoarse and it makes her head ache.

At least he left the wine.

fun fact: i got this idea a while ago then forgot about it then remembered it and was like 'oh shit'

but yeah have some more modern magic hoorah

title is still a work in progress so yeahjkhk

Who knew Chaos Lords could get sick? Or just ELs in general?

Saivel had trouble sleeping, which was not unusual. She sat up and reluctantly removed herself from the warmth of bed, but not without slipping her feet into some very soft slippers. Yawning, she walked down the stairs to the living room slowly, careful not to slip and get herself killed or injured. Perhaps they should invest in an elevator.

The moon filtered in through the window, giving Saivel just enough light to see where she was going. She made her way to the living room, flicking on the light and seating herself on the couch. It took her a moment to realize she didn't know where the TV remote was.

It didn't take her terribly long to find it, but it turned out her efforts were in vain. There was only static.

Where the hell were they, anyway?

With a groan, Saivel pushed herself off the couch and walked over to the window, squinting at the area below. There was an expanse of grass, then the railing around the edge of the Citadel, then water. It seemed to go on forever, the reflection of the moon and stars distorted on the black waters below. It was almost impossible to tell they were moving at all, gliding soundlessly through the sky.

Hm. They seemed very close to the water. Usually they would be higher; this low they could risk bumping into a tall building if they had bad luck. Of course, they were nowhere near a building, but still. Well, Fuse was sleeping, she supposed. He usually didn't steer while sleeping, but he had wanted to get to their destination as quickly as he could.

For that matter, he hadn't told any of them what their destination even was and was constantly flitting about to make sure they weren't looking for where they were and 'ruining the surprise'. It was getting a bit annoying, if Saivel was honest, but she could stand it. She trusted it would be worth it.

Saivel sighed and realized she was thirsty. She grabbed a glass from the cabinet and was filling it with water when some spilled.

"Aw shit," she muttered, looking for a paper towel to clean it up. Then she realized that she felt this--

this tilting feeling. The water in her hand was slanted to the left.

She barely had time to curse before she felt a falling feeling. A very, very sharp falling feeling.

And then there was a sudden stop--which appeared to, thankfully, be land--or not so thankfully, as this meant the shocked and confused Saivel hit her head on the counter and was subsequently knocked out cold.

And, worst of all, the glass broke and the water got everywhere.

this story is filed under: jesus_why_is_there_zero_info_about_ELs

Chapter One: Confusion

"Oh shit. Saivel, hey Saivel? SAIVEL ARE YOU ALIVE DON'T BE DEAD PLEASE."

Saivel cracked an eye open and looked around. The lights were off, but there was enough coming from outside to let her see. Venia was on her knees looking at her with concern in her gray eyes, her loose gray T-shirt with a flower crown design hanging down. Dark green pajama shorts hugged her thighs.

"Lords Venia," Saivel croaked. "You're giving me a headache."

"You'll be lucky if that's all you get," Kaime noted from behind Venia, looming over her. Why were they so goddamn tall? Why was their shirt so goddamn green? At least their pants were black, much less offensive to Saivel's eyes. "How are you?"

For a moment Saivel contemplated sitting up, but decided against it. "I think I'll be okay. My head hurts but--" she paused and patted the back of her head with her hand. "--no blood at least."

"Hmph." Kaime didn't seem satisfied with that. Saivel rolled her eyes. "What's your name? Where are we? What's thirteen times four?"

"Saivel, Fuse won't tell us, uh... fifty-two. Kaime I'm fine, just kind of tired and confused." She sighed and closed her eyes. "Do either of you know what happened? What time is it, anyway?"

"The Citadel crashed," Venia said hastily.

Saivel opened her right eye to give Venia a scathing look. "Wow, I obviously didn't know that already."

"Sorry," the girl said in reply. "We're not sure what time it is because the electricity is out but the sun just about started rising so probably like, five or six in the morning."

"Great." Saivel moved her hand to cover her face instead. "Do we know why the Citadel crashed?"

"...not very precisely, no." Kaime sighed. "The first thing we did when it seemed the coast was clear was check on Fuse. Well. Try to check on Fuse. The door was jammed and we thought it would be best to find you before trying to open it."

"Oh, just great." Saivel groaned as she slowly raised herself into a sitting position. Venia and Kaime watched her through the painful seconds it took to get herself upright. "So now we gonna try to open his door?"

"Are you up to getting there?" Kaime asked. Saivel shrugged.

"I think so." She gradually got to her feet, wobbling a little but eventually standing up, a little uncertainly. "...I think so, yeah." She smiled to try to alleviate Kaime's obvious concern. Venia looked at her skeptically, then stood up next to the older woman.

"Don't fall on me please," she muttered softly. Saivel laughed.

"I'll be sure to fall the other way," she replied, softly bumping Venia with her elbow. "Anyway, let's be on our way, yeah? Maybe I can make a light--"

Kaime waved a hand dismissively. "No, I think the sunlight should be enough. You don't need to strain yourself. If we really need light, Venia can make a fire. Watch your step, I think some of the stairs might have been damaged."

With that, they walked on ahead, Venia and Saivel trailing behind them. There was complete silence as they moved through the hallways of the Citadel, disturbing, yet one they dared not break. It was if the Citadel itself was holding its breath as a response to its master's yet unknown condition.

Finally--it seemed to be far too long--they arrived at Fuse's door. It was slightly broken, splinters coming out of it at irregular angles.

"Are you sure you couldn't just break this down?" Saivel asked. Kaime looked offended.

"You think I didn't try? It wasn't that broken before."

"Yeah, yeah, you're not foolin' anyone with your tough guy act." She inhaled deeply. "So," she said, drawling out the word, "how are we gonna get through this door?"

Venia shrugged. "I was thinking burn it down but that would risk burning many things down, so I'm not sure. Maybe that should be Plan B instead?"

"More like Plan Z." Saivel placed one hand on the door, inspecting it. "If we all push it we might be able to open it, yeah?"

Kaime sighed, but nodded nonetheless. "I suppose it's worth a try at least. Okay, on three." They stepped next to the door and prepared to push it. Venia and Saivel followed their example quickly.

"One..."

"Two..."

"Three!" The door creaked and protested as they put all of their weight against it. It progressively began to crack more and more until the lower half was suddenly on the ground, while the top half remained connected by the hinge.

"Hmm," Saivel said, staring up at the ceiling with a blank look on her face. "I guess... that works."

"Well, we're through at least," Kaime said, sitting up and brushing bits of wood off of their clothing. They looked around at the room, then made a face. "Eugh, what's this stuff?" They gestured at what appeared to be some sort of shiny purple... liquid, perhaps? They couldn't really tell and they weren't keen on touching it to find out.

"...I'd advise against touching it," Saivel said uncertainly, squinting at the strange substance. "I'm not... I'm not entirely sure what it is." She looked at Venia with concern. "Like, I'm... it's Chaos, but... I don't know. Don't touch it."

Venia stood up on top of the door to better see around the room. "You said that twice."

"Which makes it doubly important," Saivel retorted, standing up as well. "Lords this place is... well." She brushed her hair out of her face. "Guess we should check on the condition of the guy who I would assume is responsible for whatever shit is on the ground." Without any further ado, she stepped cautiously onto the ground, making sure not to touch whatever the hell that stuff on the floor was.

"Uh, are you sure that's--" Saivel glared at Kaime.

"I'm not touching it, am I?" Kaime sighed and Saivel continued making her way over to the bed. They looked at Venia, who shrugged and then began tiptoeing to the bed as well.

Forced to make a decision between staying on the door or seeing what was going on for himself, Kaime gave in and followed after the two girls. Anyway, they didn't trust that whatever that purple stuff was wouldn't spread to the door and maybe if they were moving they wouldn't have to touch it.

Saivel waited patiently for Venia and Kaime to walk up to her. They could see nothing but a bundle of blanket covered in the same weird purple stuff as the floor.

It took a few minutes, but eventually everyone was standing next to the bed, staring at the bundle of blanket.

Saivel glanced at the other two, then back at the blanket. "...He's on the other side, I suppose? Actually wait, he might be under the blanket. Or he might be somewhere else entirely, though that's unlikely."

"Should we... move it?" Venia asked hesitantly.

"I suppose so," Saivel replied, gently picking up a part of the blanket and casting it towards the foot of the bed.

Fuse was curled up on the bed, his head a foot away from the pillow and his knees tucked up to his chest. He was dressed in a simple white shirt and black sweatpants. His brown hair was messy and his face contorted into a grimace, and he was also quite covered in the purple stuff. Though they couldn't see quite clearly, it seemed to be coming from around his mouth, or perhaps his chest.

Saivel looked at Fuse sleeping for a few seconds. "I'm gonna poke him," she said, and then promptly did so gently in the arm.

He stirred slightly and opened his eyes a little.

"I'm cold," he whispered, his voice hoarse and almost inaudible. Hastily, Kaime grabbed a clean section of the blanket and pulled it over him.

"I'm still cold," he said softly.

"Venia, could you go get another blanket? From... I don't know, somewhere." Venia nodded and scurried off quickly while Saivel placed the back of her hand on Fuse's thankfully clean forehead.

"Damn, he's burning up." Saivel glanced at Kaime worriedly. "I didn't know ELs could get sick," she muttered.

"You're related to a past one," Kaime pointed out.

"Grandpa never got sick as far as I remember, certainly not when he was at the peak of power and not running out of it." Saivel looked down at Fuse, placing her hands on his arm and squeezing softly. "He shouldn't be sick. And this shouldn't be happening."

"Lords, Saivel, I don't know what to do," Kaime said, putting their hand through their hair. "I'm no doctor, my knowledge of healing is minimal and anyway it was mostly animals. Besides, I doubt even if I was a doctor I would know how to fix--this."

Their conversation was interrupted as Fuse said, "I'm tired."

At that moment Venia came back in and floated two blankets over to Kaime, who quickly took them and placed them over Fuse until his head was almost invisible under the blankets.

The Chaos Lord smiled slightly and curled up tighter. "That's better."

Saivel sat on the end table next to the bed, which seemed to be clear of any of the purple stuff. "What the hell is going on, Kaime? How did all this happen in--in a matter of hours?" She let out a scream of frustration and put her head in her hands.

"I don't know," Kaime said softly, looking down at the pitiful man lying on the bed, surrounded by a wall of blankets.

Venia stood there, silent, for a moment, before hastily power-walking over to the two. "The sun is properly up now," she said. "I think we should probably go investigate wherever we've landed."

"We can't leave him alone," Saivel said, gesturing at Fuse sleeping on the bed.

"I doubt he can get any worse," Venia said rather callously. She sighed and continued with a softer tone of voice. "Look. The Citadel crashed practically the moment we hit shore. Whatever made this happen, I think it has something to do with wherever we are. You can stay if you'd like, but we should definitely investigate."

"No welcome committee's shown up," Kaime pointed out. "Maybe they're afraid of us, maybe there's no one here."

"Okay fine, I'll go. But I think someone should at least--watch Fuse."

"I'll stay," Kaime said quickly. "I figure you two can probably move faster and anyway you're probably smarter than me. Also, I know... a little about healing. Just a little, but..." He shrugged. "Better than nothing."

"Alright then, it's decided." Venia looked at Saivel. "I guess we should get going then?"

Saivel sighed and let go of Fuse's arm. "I guess. Bye Kaime, bye Fuse." Venia whispered goodbyes as well and the two girls quickly exited.

Kaime looked after them for a little while, then turned back to Fuse.

"I'm losing."

"Wha--?" Kaime started a little. "You're losing? ...what?"

But he was sleeping again.

Chapter 2: Ruins

As Venia exited the room, she looked around and quickly nabbed a flashlight lying on a nearby counter. Saivel looked at her questioningly.

"Who knows how late we'll be out?" she said. "We should probably bring some other stuff, too--I dunno, emergency stuff. Food."

"Oh shit, food." Saivel slapped her forehead. "How long will the stuff in the fridge last? What are we gonna do with that?"

"I think we have an emergency generator somewhere, but it could've been damaged when we, y'know, crashed." Venia shrugged. "Think it's worth looking for it?"

"Maybe later, and eat the stuff that spoils quickly or something? I dunno Venia, I'm not prepared for this kind of stuff. Lords, what the hell is happening?!"

"Aw shit, Saivel--calm down, okay?" Venia placed her hand on Saivel's shoulder comfortingly. "I mean I'll admit that I don't have a clue what's going on either but having a nervous breakdown won't help anyone. 'Specially not Fuse."

Saivel nodded. "...alright. I guess we should grab something to carry stuff. I dunno, a backpack or a bag or something."

Venia gestured behind her. "I think I have a backpack in my room, lemme check. Go to the kitchen and grab some other stuff. Maybe your gun's worth bringing, I dunno, but better safe than sorry."

There was a pause, before Saivel's face suddenly lit up with an idea. "You should probably get changed, and.... get some medical stuff from the bathroom, I'll get some food... snack... stuff. And my gun."

"And your gun." Venia nodded and walked off, leaving Saivel alone. She sighed and headed the opposite way of Venia, soon stopping by a room with a plain white door, which she opened softly. Stepping inside, she closed the door behind her and scanned her room for her gun. Wait, what was she thinking? Mentally slapping herself, Saivel quickly retrieved it from the drawer in her end table and placed it on top of her desk before going to her wardrobe and looking for something to change into.

After a few minutes, she had changed into simple skinny jeans and a loose, light lilac-colored shirt with sleeves reaching to her elbows, embellished with the silvery outline of a feather. She slid her gun into her thigh holster, put her hair into a ponytail, and quickly exited her room, looking behind her to check if she had left anything important behind somehow. After feeling satisfied she had not, she closed the door behind her and swiftly stepped down the stairs to the kitchen.

Her first order of business, she decided, was to look in the fridge. The most easily spoiled item was milk, which she sniffed quickly and decided had probably already gone bad. She glanced at the eggs and decided that they were probably safe for now. Other than that, there was mostly vegetables and just miscellaneous foodstuffs, but she did take the grapes and pizza and grabbed some chips from the counter. After thinking for a moment, she took some chocolate too. Might as well.

When Saivel had just finished wrapping the pizza in aluminum foil and was just putting the lid on a container full of grapes, Venia came down the stairs with a leafy patterned backpack, holding a first aid kit in her hand. She was wearing jeans as well and a black long-sleeved T-shirt, her hair put into a messy ponytail.

"Hey!" she said, quickly moving her backpack so Saivel could put the pizza inside as she walked into the kitchen. Saivel gently put the pizza in, then the grapes, and piled the bags of chips on top of everything else.

"Think that's enough?" Saivel asked.

"If we don't stay out too late, we'll probably be okay. Hand over the chocolate, girl." Venia put the first aid kit into another pocket of the backpack, one hand held out to Saivel, who gave the younger girl the chocolate. She stuffed it in yet another pocket. "Thought of anything else to bring?"

"...Jackets and shoes?" Saivel gestured towards the coat hanger next to the door.

"Ah yes, jackets." Venia swung her backpack back towards her and zipped up the pockets. She nabbed her white sweatshirt off of the hanger and quickly tied it around her waist, then handed Saivel her red jacket, which Saivel quickly took and put on. Afterwards, the two took a minute to put on their shoes quickly.

"I think we should be ready to head out now, then." Saivel walked over to the door, but glanced at Venia for confirmation. Venia shrugged and Saivel opened the door.

Saivel stared at what was in front of her before softly saying, "Hmm."

"Wha--" Venia quickly looked out of the front door and sighed. Upturned earth was partially blocking their exit. "Just... crouch?"

"I guess." With a groan, Saivel clambered out, knocking over a little of the dirt on her way. She quickly brushed herself out and said, "Come on through."

Venia emerged from the exit which had just become very inconvenient and looked around her. There was fairly little that could be said about the area they were in. The air seemed dead and stuffy, making Saivel quickly remove her jacket. It was yellow, brittle grass as far as the eye could see, with patches of just empty dirt in between.

"Damn, I expected more," she said with a huff, scanning the horizon for anything interesting. "Wait," she said softly, then raised her voice. "You see that? Over there?"

Saivel followed Venia's gaze and squinted. "Yeah, looks like something to me." She turned to Venia. "Think it'd be worth flying? Or levitating, in your case, I suppose?"

"It seems pretty far off, so I guess so. Don't wear yourself out entirely because whatever that is gives me a bad vibe. I don't want to spend the night there."

"Me neither," Saivel agreed with a shudder. She sighed and said, "and I liked this shirt," before gritting her teeth as white wings suddenly burst from her back, quickly extending to their full length and almost hitting Venia in the face. Venia stepped back instinctively before she suddenly began floating in the air--just a few inches above the ground.

"Watch your wings, girl," Venia said with a smile before she began zooming off. "Last one to whatever the heck that is is a rotten egg!"

"Our eggs will be rotten in a few days, you asshole!" Saivel called after her, though she was also smiling. She ran forward, beating her wings once, twice, three times before she lifted off of the ground, within a minute matching Venia in speed. Venia made an indignant face at this, but quickly the mask fell and she smiled and laughed, Saivel laughing with her.

They laughed for a few minutes until Saivel suddenly started coughing, her feet touching ground and causing her to rather dramatically fall. She flopped on the ground, her feet flailing before she appeared to painfully land on her face.

"Saivel what--" Venia immediately stopped and ran over to her. Saivel sat up, shook her head, and blinked.

"Lords," she said, before coughing again, developing into a full blown coughing fit. Venia squatted next to her and looked on with concern, unsure of what to do. Finally, Saivel's coughing came to a stop. She drew her hand away from her mouth and looked at it with concern.

"Venia... does this look familiar to you?"

Venia looked at Saivel's hand. It was covered in the same odd, purple sticky stuff they had seen all over Fuse's room. "What the hell?" she muttered. "Are you okay?"

"I... think so," Saivel said, shrugging. She took out her ponytail, before promptly re-doing it. "We're close enough to walk now, I think."

"Alright," Venia said, not sounding very convinced. She set a steady pace walking, Saivel having to run a little bit to catch up to her.

The thing they had spotted on the horizon was close enough for them to get an idea of what it was. It was some sort of stone construction, the material strangely smooth and shiny and... black, despite the fact it was broken and fractured in numerous places.

Saivel came and stood in front of the nearest pillar, hesitantly reaching out to touch its surface. "It's cold," she noted before another coughing fit came on. Venia hurried up to her.

"Saivel, do you have any idea why--" Saivel put out her hand covered with the purple sticky stuff to the pillar in order to steady herself, before quickly drawing it away. Venia took a look at her hand--the purple stuff was gone.

"What the fuck," Saivel whispered, staring at her now clean hand. "What the fuck is up with these ruins?"

"Do you think we should... like... look around?"

"Yeah. Whatever the hell came out of my mouth is whatever the hell was in Fuse's room and it's gotta be related to this... whatever the fuck this is. Weirdass building." Saivel looked around and saw a staircase descending downward. She walked over slowly and looked down. "Shit's dark."

Venia took a breath in and came over to the staircase. "Let's go," she whispered. Saivel nodded and the two walked into the darkness.

some lox playing mario kart and yelling about blue shells

"You bet I'm in fuckin' first place!" Saivel pumped the air with a mad grin on her face.

"You're blocking my view, you ass," Venia said, sitting on the couch behind her. She leaned over to the other side in order to be able to still see what was going on.

Fuse rolled his eyes. "It's just a game, Saivel, lords."

"You're just mad because I used a blue shell on you and now you're in sixth," she replied. Fuse made a face, but did not reply. She was telling the truth, after all.

"Hey Saivel, I'm in second. You might wanna watch out." Saivel made a face at Kaime.

"Wow, rude," she muttered, turning back to the screen and getting some bananas. Venia grinned evilly behind her.

"Saivel, wanna guess what I have?"

"If you have a blue shell I will--" Saivel looked over to Venia's side of the screen. "You have a blue shell I am going to kill you."

"Mmhmm," Venia replied, drifting past a computer into third place and using the item.

"AW FUCK NO," Saivel yelled, using up all of her bananas so she could grab another item. "GODDAMMIT MORE BANANAS NOT WHAT I NEED RIGHT NOW." She swored loudly then added, "right at the finish line, Venia? Really?" right before the shell hit. She threw her hands into the air, dropping her Wii remote.

"Thanks for the first place Venia," Kaime said, holding out a hand. Venia high-fived him.

"You owe me one," she said.

"I do," he agreed.

Fuse sighed. "At least I didn't get twelfth," he muttered. Saivel grumbled, having driven over the finish to claim third place.

"Venia I'm gonna murder you but I'm actually really hungry because we've been playing this for like, three hours. Let's get something to eat." Saivel crossed her arms and glared at the screen.

"What time is it even?" Fuse checked his watch quickly. "Hmm. Six. Okay, should we get pizza or actually properly go out?"

"Let's go out. Saivel won't be able to kill me right after we finish the meal then." Saivel shot a glare at Venia.

"You betrayed me," she said with narrowed eyes. Venia laughed and got off the couch, turning off the Wii and the TV.

"So, going out for dinner, yeah?" Kaime asked in a way that was more of a statement.

"You get to choose since you got first place."

Kaime grinned. "Hell yes."
