Pokémon: A Region Divided

Post by Führer Egg Roll on Tue Dec 09, 2014 3:12 am

About 50 years ago, the region of Scindo was officially split apart. In truth, its people had been split apart long before that.

Legend told that the people of Scindo had been blessed with a great Pokémon, which they used to become one of the most powerful regions in the Pokémon world. However, eastern Scindo disagreed with the way the region was using this Pokémon, while western Scindo was perfectly happy with the way they were. Eventually, this argument rose to a point where the legendary Pokémon was sealed away on an island off the coast of Scindo, and the region was split into two: East Scindo and West Scindo.

Without the power of the legendary Pokémon, and with the region divided, Scindo disappeared into obscurity until it became almost entirely isolated from the other regions in the world.

In recent times, people have been working to bring Scindo back together again, with a group of five people most prominent: Harmonia, Amity, Aksel, Bedrich, and Honora. There is still a long way to go before Scindo finally joins back together, but people are now allowed to cross the border from East to West and vice versa.

For the first time in 50 years, girls and boys from Diligencia Town in East Scindo are finally being sent on their Pokémon journey. Of course, they are aided by a Pokémon Professor, the good-hearted, if a little naïve Professor Holly, who used to be the assistant of West Scindo’s Professor Aspen.

But is there something more behind Scindo’s uniting, something with darker intentions?...

Rules:
1. You have one Pokémon to start with, which CANNOT be shiny or legendary. I'm looking at you, Mega Rayquaza fans.

  • This Pokémon must be able to Mega Evolve.
  • This Pokémon cannot evolve via stone or trading.
  • This Pokémon must be level 5.

2. Base Pokédollar amount is 1,000. No matter who you are or how rich your family is.

3. Don’t godmod–dice will be used. 0-3 is a miss, 4-7 is a hit, 8-9 is a critical.

Pokéballs have a 0-6 Fail Rate and a 7-9 Success Rate. Great balls have a 0-4 Fail Rate and a 5-9 Success Rate. Ultra balls have a 0-3 Fail Rate and a 4-9 Success Rate.

Against legendaries, Pokéballs have a 0-12 Fail Rate and a 13-15 Success Rate. Great balls have a 0-11 Fail Rate and a 12-15 Success Rate. Ultra balls have a 0-10 Fail Rate and a 11-15 Success Rate.

  • If a status effect occurs, one will be subtracted/added to the affected stat.

4. Be polite, make sure your posts have understandable English, yada yada yada, you know the drill.

Template:
Name:
Gender:
Age: (mid-teens, so like 13-17 at the highest and lowest)
History: (this and the next two don’t need to be very detailed, but you should fill them out a little at least)
Appearance:
Personality:
Starting Inventory: (Will only be your respective Mega Stone)
Starter Pokemon: (remember the rules)
Starting Moves: (Just the moves they know at level 5. However, if your Pokémon only knows like, one move, you can add one it wouldn’t necessarily know. For instance, Beldum is basically useless so Bloons can add Iron Head so he isn’t stuck with Take Down forever.)
Additional Notes: (include any skills/abilities the trainer has, i guess)

Map of Scindo

Map Information:
Diligencia Town: A small, quaint town near to the coast of East Scindo, known for its hardworking people. Professor Holly, East Scindo's Pokémon Professor, lives here. This is where our journey begins.

Compassia Town: Although it is not too far from Valorin City, Compassia Town is not very large. In the past, people commonly went through it on their way to Valorin Gym, but since then Compassia Town has quieted down considerably.

Valorin City: A solid city built of the stone surrounding the city. The Valorin Gym is located here, where trainers can battle Rochelle to gain the Stalwart Badge. Even though few people come to the gym, Valorin City supplies stone to the rest of East Scindo.

Charitone City: Founded by a rich family, Charitone is a prosperous city even though Scindo has slipped into obscurity. Trainers can battle Adeline, the Gym Leader of Charitone Gym, and gain the Grace Badge.

Demuren Town: A popular tourist location, being nearby to both Charitone City and the Lake of Hope. Still, there are not very many permanent residents, and nothing much to note in the town.

Lake of Hope: A typically calm lake next to Temperain City. People are known to come here simply to find peace and hope for a better future, and legends say that when you wish by the Lake of Hope, your wish will come true.

Temperain City: This peaceful city is located next to the Lake of Hope, Temperain is home to a plethora of Water Pokémon. It's only logical, then, that the Temperain Gym's Leader, Keefe, who gives out the Austere Badge, specializes in Water Pokémon.

Persistier City: Home to Scindo's largest mine, both humans and Steel Pokémon share the load of the work in Persistier City. As a result, Persistier Gym, lead by Magnilda, who gives out the Grit Badge, is both a Pokémon Gym and a steel factory.

Indolentte Town: Although a fairly small and quiet town, with an air of stillness about it, the Pokémon Professor Aspen finds the environment perfect to study Pokémon. Indolentte Town is home to many Snorlaxes and Slowpokes.

Aphrodisa City: A city that never sleeps, filled with tall buildings and flashing neon signs. The Gym Leader of Aphrodisa Gym, Delilah, is also a model in her spare time and gives out the Carnal Badge if defeated.

Egode City: This city is one of the largest in Scindo, and the inhabitants are exceptionally proud of that. Here, you can find the Egode Gym, where the Gym Leader Nolan will give out the Masked Badge.

Avarice City: Right next to both the coast and a river, Avarice City is bursting with trade, and is most known for its shopping mall, where a vast range of products can be found. People are known to head into Avarice City with their pockets full of Pokédollars and leave broke.

Maligna Town: Next to Contema Forest, Maligna Town is filled to the brim with Bug Pokémon. The Gym Leader of Maligna Gym, Terrian, gives out the Covet Badge--for now. He is well-known for his ambition, and plans to become one of the Elite Four one day.

Decadencia City: Much like Avarice City, Decadencia City is located next to both the coast and a river. Unlike Avarice City, Decadencia City is known for its food. The greatest chefs and restaurants in Scindo can be found here.

Conniptian City: Conniptian City is a bright city which is often compared to a flickering fire. In past years, it has grown exponentially, only for its inhabitants to then move off suddenly, like a fire going out. However, Ignacio, Leader of Conniptian Gym, has been giving out the Flare Badge for as long as he has been around, and will not go out anytime soon.

Mirage Islands: Mysterious islands off the coast of Scindo. Stories differ about what exactly can be found on them, and if they are actually real or not. People say that the legendary Pokémon Scindo was blessed with was sealed on one of the islands, but no one has been able to confirm it.

Re: Pokémon: A Region Divided

Post by no mom its ironic on Tue Dec 09, 2014 3:18 am

Name: Nadia Abaroa
Gender: Female
Age: 15
History: Nadia and her parents lived in a house beside the Lake of Hope until she was about seven, at which point her father lost his job in Temperain City. While her parents struggled to make ends meet, her aunt Adelaide who lived in Diligencia Town offered to take care of Nadia. As time grew on, her parents moved around East Scindo and had less and less time to see Nadia. Thankfully, her aunt was more than an adequate caretaker, and even if she did miss her mother and father, she still grew up to be a happy, pleasant girl. Perhaps this explains why, when on a trip to the Lake of Hope at about 12 years old, a Ralts appeared and was her faithful companion ever since. Though she never trained the Ralts, figuring that since she was unable to go on her Pokémon journey there was no point, she named it Melisande and treated it as a friend.
Appearance: With light brown hair in a bob cut and large, hazel eyes with long eyelashes, complete with a fair skin, a round face, and a permanent smile, Nadia is the definition of childlike innocence. She's fairly short at 5'2", but since she's constantly on the move and somewhat thin, it can sometimes be hard to tell. For convenience's sake, she wears light clothes that are easy to move around in; namely, a light blue, short-sleeved shirt with a Wingull on it, black sneakers, faded shorts, and finally a black belt where she keeps her... well, it's only one Pokéball for now, but that'll change.
Personality: There's no doubt that Nadia is a 'glass half full' kinda person. Despite the fact that she's seen her parents only a few times in the past eight years, she is an unfailing optimist and always sees the best side of everyone. Perhaps this makes her a bit too trusting, but as of yet no one has taken advantage of her naivety and even if they did she'd pick herself right back up and keep on going.
She has practically boundless energy and as a result is somewhat impatient and can, on occasion, be rude only to realize it later and apologize profusely.
Starting Inventory: Gardevoirite
Starter Pokemon: Female Ralts, Melisande
Starting Moves: Growl, Confusion
Additional Notes: Melisande's Ability is Synchronize:
Passes poison, paralyze, or burn to the Pokémon that inflicted it.

Re: Pokémon: A Region Divided

Name: Kyle Avalso
Gender: Male
Age: 16
History: His mother was very loving of him, almost to the point of smothering. His father was strict on him though, and this caused friction between the two. To show him up, Kyle decided to become a Pokemon trainer. One day he was attacked by Pokemon while exploring the woods just outside of town. To save him, a Treecko appeared and attempted to scare off the attackers, but failed. This resulted in the Treecko taking the majority of the attack. Kyle took the injured Pokemon to the Pokemon Center. They shared a strong bond ever since then, each vowing to become stronger so that this never happened again. Kyle gave the Treecko a nickname, Vargas, and they became great friends. Also, Vargas allowed him to get caught in a Pokeball to insure that the bond between them shall never be broken.
Appearance: Shaggy dark-brown hair that falls to the eyes, almost obscuring vision. Wears dark clothing, usually a hoodie with a black shirt under it, and comfortable jeans.
Personality: He is the kind of person who doesn't care if you approve of his actions, unless you are a friend. Just a not caring dude, for reals.
Inventory: Sceptilite
Starter Pokemon: Male Treecko, Vargas
Starting Moves: Leer, Pound, Absorb
Additional Notes: Overgrow (Pokemon gets owie real bad, punch power goes up)

*Kyle takes the Sceptilite from his pocket and fumbles around with it in his hand*
Hmmm...Vargas, what do you think about this stone?
*Vargas stares at the stone for a moment, then looks at Kyle, shaking from the excitement of being able to explore the world by his trainer's side. Kyle chuckles slightly
Don't worry. We'll be able to explore soon.
*They walk around Diligencia Town for a little while gathering supplies for the trip ahead

Wild sat on his bed, looking out the window from his darkened room. He was excited to go on a Pokémon journey, but he knew no one he could adventure with. Born and raised in Diligencia, but he never met or made any friends. There were people he could convince to go on the adventure, that girl, what was her name? Nad... Something? And that boy, K something... But he had no clue what to say to convince them. They probably didn't even know he existed. He sighed, looking now at the Pokéball on his desk. "At least I got you, Carvanha."

Re: Pokémon: A Region Divided

Post by no mom its ironic on Thu Dec 11, 2014 2:50 am

just fyi this is what prof. holly looks like:

"What time did I say?"

For the third time in less than a minute, Professor Holly checked her watch. It was still 9:43, just like it had been the last two times. "Did I even set a specific time at all?" she muttered to herself. "I just told them today, didn't I?" Unable to recall, she simply groaned and covered her face with her hands. Just as she was prepared to forget about the whole 'sending the kids on their Pokémon journey' thing and talk with Professor Aspen about whether they would finally be able to meet and talk about things in person, somebody knocked at the door.

The Professor looked through her fingers at whoever it was, letting a sliver of an emerald eye peek through the gap. Nadia was at the door, which had been left ajar. The girl smiled sheepishly as her Ralts, Melisande, popped out from behind her leg. "It seemed rude not to knock," she explained.

Well, oddness aside, Holly didn't really care about the fact Nadia had just knocked on an open door. "Nadia!" she exclaimed, taking a second to clear her bright red hair out of her face before walking over to the girl with quick, fast steps. "Do you know if I set a time for our meeting today?"

"I... don't remember," Nadia admitted, rubbing the back of her head with her hand. "I think you just said 'the morning,' though."

"Ah. So the other..." Oh dear. Two? ...maybe three, Holly really couldn't remember. "The others, they're probably just... waiting around, aren't they?"

"Or sleeping," Nadia suggested. Holly waved a hand dismissively.

"When someone tells you meet them in the morning, usually they don't mean later than... ooh... eleven at the latest? They're probably awake. Nadia--" The girl instinctively straightened as the Professor turned to her. "Could you do me a favor and find them?"

"Um." The blank look on Nadia's face told it all. "...maybe?"

Professor Holly could not hold back her loud sigh. She had been so excited; the kids had been excited too. Well, not kids, exactly--but close enough. Her plan to revive the... 'tradition' of sending kids on their Pokémon journey was turning out to not be working so smoothly. Honestly, what had she expected? Neither she nor Professor Aspen really knew what to do--'it was half a century ago,' Aspen had reminded her (through text, of course.) Though he'd been able to cross over into Indolentte Town on the grounds of further research, passage back into East Scindo had proved... impossible.

Perhaps she could've asked other regions' Professors for help, but they all seemed so much more unreachable than Professor Aspen. Well, what she had was what she had, and what she had was Nadia. The girl was fairly sociable and knew practically everyone in Diligencia, so she should be able to round up the others.

"Could you please try to round them up, Nadia?" Nadia opened her mouth to reply, but the Professor continued. "Even if you can't find everyone, try to find... most of them?"

"I could try, Professor, but..." The girl shuffled her feet uncomfortably, then said, "I don't know who else is coming."

Oh. Oh. She'd talked to them separately. Dammit. Maybe if this--this thing ever happened again, Holly should write down some notes for future reference. Step One: Don't be an inexperienced Professor who would really only be an assistant if Aspen was still around.

"There's, ah..." She searched her mind for the names of the kids. "...K... Kyle, yes, and... Wild?..." There was a niggling feeling that there just might be someone else, but whoever they were (if they even existed and her mind wasn't playing tricks on her), their name wasn't coming to mind.

"Wild?" Nadia said the name as if it were a foreign word on her tongue. "Um--alright, Professor. I'll try to find them."

"Thank you, Nadia." Holly gave Nadia a bright smile and then whirled around--Pokédex, Pokédex--she really wished Professor Aspen was there. Even if he also had no organization skills whatsoever, at least he had some sort of intuitive sense of where he'd put his things.

Meanwhile, Nadia turned around and headed out the door. "Melisande... I think I know where Kyle lives, but I've only ever heard of Wild. You know anything, girl?"

Her Ralts shook her head. "'Spected as much. Ah well. Let's find Kyle first then--maybe he knows where Wild's at."

Both seemed to agree this was a good course of action, and Nadia headed off in the direction she was fairly certain Kyle's house was in.

Wild looked out his window. Through the glass he saw a girl walk past. He gripped his Pokéball and watched. When she passed, he got ready to head off to the lab. Running as fast as he could, as to not be detected.

*Kyle and Vargas were in the store, prepping for the trip*
I'll take two Pokéballs, please.
*He hands the cashier the 400 Poké, then walks out the door with a friendly wave of the hand to the store clerk. Vargas perked his ears attentively, and tugged the young trainers pants to get his attention*
Hmm? What is it, Vargas?
*The small Treecko pointed at the young trainer coming towards him, but they seemed not to have noticed, as they passed right by them, and were heading towards his house
Oh well. One of mom's friends, I suppose.
*Kyle thinks for a minute, then face-palms for a good second or two
Dammit, the professor probably sent someone for me! Hey! Did the professor send you?

On better news, I got a few rough sketches done of my character. Gonna make a few more to get the best result.)

(they're 16 n shiznit because there wasn't a point to sending them on their as whole pokémon journey thing before, so nobody went. now there's the opportunity, so who cares if the kids are 16 lets go)

(anyway, half of the gyms were in the east and half in the west and apart from Professor Aspen crossing over into west scindo once (and then he couldn't get back) no one else did after scindo got divided)

(the pokemon league is in the west as well and we are in the east)

(also they didn't necessarily JUST get their pokemon; nadia has had melisande for a while but never trained her because what's the point, let's just be chill, bloons caught carvanha by himself, and scorp just kinda befriended his treecko. ANYWAY)

Nadia jumped slightly as someone said something to her--oh, wait. She turned around quickly to face the boy who'd asked her the question. "Oh! Oh, yeah, the, uh, the Professor sent me." With a nervous grin, she continued. "Um... you're... Kyle? Kyle, right?"

She stepped forward and held out a hand. "I'm Nadia. Do you have any idea where... Wild is? The Professor told me to find him too."

Wild hid behind a few trees as people walked by. When the coast seemed clear, he ran to the next set, slowly getting closer to the lab. "Okay Wild... You're doing good so far... Almost there..." He thought to himself.

Nadia nodded and bounced on her heels, questioning whether racing Kyle there was a good idea or not. Eventually she decided that maybe it wasn't.

Instead, she blurted out, "Wait, he actually exists?" Realizing how weird that must sound, she quickly added, "I mean, I've like... heard of Wild, but never actually seen him. And I know most everyone in Diligencia."

Would the prof send you to get him if he didn't exist? It kinda seems weird that she would send you to get me so we could go on a wild goose chase for someone that didn't exist.

Someone else had arrived in her lab. Professor Holly turned around, slightly irritated but more curious at who it was. Her eyes widened in shock. "Ah--Wild!" Her shock faded into a warm smile, then she realized that now Nadia and Kyle needed finding. "Well... um, come in, please." She waved the boy in and sighed softly.

"I sent Nadia out to look for you," she admitted sheepishly. "Not... really sure what I should do now. I don't think they know where you live..."

"I guess the best course of action is to wait, then." She leaned against her desk and paused, considering what to say. "Are you planning on heading on your journey with them? Nadia and Kyle, I mean."

"Ah--well, I mean, I just..." Nadia shrugged. "No, I guess she wouldn't. I've just never seen him before." She paused and looked around her. "I know pretty much everyone in the inner area of Diligencia... so his house is probably somewhere on the outskirts or something."

"Or," she added, a new thought coming to mind, "we could head back to the Professor. Maybe she's at least got an idea. I mean, she's had to have met him before, right?"

*Kyle contemplated the options, then said with a half-sigh
Yeah, let's head to the lab. That would be the best course of action for now.
*Kyle and Vargas head toward Professor Holly's lab

"I... I suppose so... They may help me to stop being so.. reclusive..." Wild nervously stepped forward, further in the lab. "I'm... Kinda scared..."

*Kyle raps on the door to the professor's lab, then opens the door
Yo Professor, how's it...
*He trails off when he sees an unfamiliar face, but then immediately resumes
Uhh... going. I was just about to come when I met Nadia. The only one left is Wild now.

The Professor resisted the urge to roll her eyes. "Well, he's here, Kyle." She gestured towards Wild and gave him what she hoped was a reassuring smile. "Wild, Kyle. Kyle, Wild." At that moment, Nadia followed Kyle in through the door. "And that is Nadia."

On cue, Nadia waved and smiled. "Uh, hi." She made a face and looked around. "So, uh, you're gonna... like... get us all prepared or something and then send us off, right?"

"...well, yes," Holly admitted. "That was the basic plan."
